As such, travelers to Houston should expect to see plenty of industry along their route: oil refineries and chemical plants are common sights around town. But there’s much more than just business to see here.

Fort Worth

The city was established in 1849 as an army outpost on a bluff overlooking Caddo Lake by William Jenkins Worth, hence its nickname “Cowtown”.

The fort served as a trading post for indigenous peoples who traveled through this area in their annual buffalo hunts; it also served as a military post during both Indian wars against Comanche raiders from 1846–the 1850s.

Arlington
